Abstract

This study was conducted to compare the salt tolerances of four zoysiagrass species and four hybrids, and to recommend the kinds of potential species or hybrids and the tolerable range of salt concentration. Z. koreana and four hybrids showed lower percent leaf firing than the other three species which have been known as salt tolerant turfgrass species worldwide. Vertical shoot length, fresh weight, and dry weight decreased with increasing salinity level and expanding salt stress duration. All zoysiagrasses used in this study showed potentials as groundcover materials in the soil up to 0.5% NaCl salinity level. Z. koreana and four hybrids which have fine leaves with higher salt tolerances can be recommended for the areas where more severe salt problem is expected.
